Introduction
We have friends who are Fantis’ and they speak Fanti, we have friends who are Ewes, so they speak the ewe language, we have friends who are Dangobas so speak the Dangoba language.
Most of us belong to a group that speaks one language, dress in a particular way, eat a particular type of food, perform the same practices such as traditional marriage or a naming ceremony. A group having so many characteristics in common is what is known as an ethnic group.
There are a lot of ethnic groups here in Ghana. Their special characteristics or culture (i.e. their way of live) is what makes one ethnic group different from the other. But, even though there are differences, there are also some cultural practices that are common among many ethnic groups in Ghana. Some of these common cultural practices are marriage procedures, divorce procedure, outdooring ceremony etc.
