Natural Disasters


Natural disasters are any severe events caused by nature that result in loss of life and damage to property.

Natural disasters are usually measured by the extent of property damaged, amounts of lives lost, the ability to rebuild damaged areas and how long it would take.

These days with the increase in population around the world there are high numbers of deaths when natural disasters occur.

Examples of Natural Disasters are;

Floods


Earthquakes

Volcanic Eruptions


Tornadoes


Tsunamis


These days natural disasters happen more frequently, with records of minor and major earthquakes across the world. A lot more floods have also been recorded.

Now scientists have the technology to predict when some natural disasters like tornadoes, tsunamis and earthquakes will hit and how severe they will be.

In areas where the occurrences of natural disasters are high, the population has devised ways to lower casualties through preparation and building of underground shelters. The preparation does not save everything, like their property above the ground but it allows them to save valuables and take supplies with them.

In Ghana, Floods are the most common Natural Disaster that we face with the most severe one taking place on June 3rd 2015. As a country we might be well equipped to deal with earthquakes, tornadoes and hurricanes, so it is quite a relief these do not occur here.
