Materials are substances used to make other useful things. Materials are all around us. There are natural materials such as rocks, wood from trees etc.

There are also synthetic materials made from natural materials using certain processes.

Examples of materials are plastic and metals.

Metals have characteristics that are directly opposite to non-metals.

For example, metals are good conductors of heat and electricity whiles non-metals are poor conductors of heat and electricity. Both metals and non-metals are very useful in homes and industries.
