Characteristics of Peer Groups
Peer groups are groups of people with similar characters and these characters bind them together. Every peer group has a peculiar character and individuals join groups which favour them. Example, a peer group that is rebellious will be attractive to rebellious people and they will be the kind of people to join such group.
Peer groups have different characters that bind them together. Some of their characteristics are:
i. Inquisitive People in this group always want to know more, they ask a lot of questions about the things they hear.
ii. Adventurous The individuals in this group, always want to explore, they want to experience new things. They take risks to learn new things.
iii. Full of youthful exuberance The individuals in this group are very energetic and always happy.
iv. Can be boisterous They usually feel they know more than their peers. They normally argue, debate on issues and always want to prove their points as right.
v. Negative in out look This is part of some developmental stages in some youths. They open themselves up to foreign cultures. They learn a lot of foreign practices such as the way they dress, walk, talk, the food they eat etc. Members in this group are mostly noticed by the way they dress. They mostly have similar clothes.
