Ways of Conserving Energy
Turn off refrigerators and other electrical appliances that use high amounts of electrical energy when not in use. Refrigerators alone account for about 20% of household electricity use. Turning off refrigerators can reduce unnecessary energy consumption and payment of electricity bills.
Avoid using vehicles to places that are a walking distance from you. This is to reduce regular buying of fuel and also reduce the carbon dioxide emission into the atmosphere that causes global warming.
Use energy efficient electrical appliances that consume lower amounts of energy. E.g. energy saving bulbs instead of the onion bulbs.
Repair faulty appliances and gadgets as these require high energy input in order to work but the energy output is rather low.
When leaving your homes, make sure all appliances and mains are off.
When using kettles, boil water with the kettle covered as this makes the water boil faster and uses less energy.
Train yourself or an employee at the office to become an Energy Conservation Officer.
Install effective automatic door closers. Doors cannot save energy when they are not closed.
Make sure the thermostats in appliances e.g. Rice cooker and irons are working so that one does not use energy unnecessarily.
Check the capacity of energy consumption on an appliance before purchasing it. This helps one to estimate the amount of energy consumption in the home or office and take the next step before installing or fixing the appliance.
Wash full loads of clothes when using the washing machine. Try to avoid bit by bit washing as this consumes high amounts of energy.
