Food Preservation

Food Preservation is the method used to prevent food from going bad or from micro-organisms growing on it.

There are reasons for preserving foods. They are;

• It increases food availability. This is because food will not go bad.

• To make certain foods available even after their seasons have passed. Food that is cultivated have seasons in which they grow, some only grow twice a year. Food preservation helps preserve those foods throughout the year.

• Some foods are harvested in large quantities they cannot be consumed within that short period so they are preserved for future use.

• Some farms are far from homes or markets so food harvested from those farms must be preserved before taking them to their destinations.

• It prevents farmers from massive losses of harvest.
