Capital Letters
Capital letters are also known as upper case letters. We use them at the beginning of sentences or when writing proper nouns. Here are a few rules for when to use capital letters.
- The first word in a sentence has to start with a capital.
Example
The teacher wrote eight new words on the board.
- Days of the week and months always start with a capital.
Example
We go swimming on Mondays and Fridays.
The rainy season starts in April.
- Proper nouns/ the names of people, places, buildings and organisations always start with a capital.
Example
We moved to New York when I was nine.
My dad drove John to school today.
