Synonyms

We say two or more words are synonyms when they have similar meanings or the same meaning. For example, the word ‘little’ has the same/ a similar meaning to the words ‘small’, ‘tiny’, ‘teeny’ and ‘petite’.

This means when we want to describe something as ‘little’, depending on what we are speaking about, we can use one of the other words and people will still understand that we mean the person/ thing is ‘little’. We will look at some more common examples below.
