Present Perfect for Irregular Verbs
To form the present perfect tense for irregular verbs we still use has/ have + the past participle form of the verb.
For irregular verbs, there are no fixed rules about how to form the past participle.
Some irregular verbs form the past participle by adding ‘en’ to the end of the verb example forget becomes forgotten.
Other irregular verbs change spelling in the past participle example catch becomes caught.
Some irregular verbs maintain their base form in the past participle example. read stays read in the past participle.
We will look at some examples of the present perfect tense for irregular verbs below.
For example, to form the present perfect tense for eat, we use the helping verb ‘has’ or ‘have’ + the past participle (eaten) as in the sentence below.
Example;
- Aku has eaten all the pizza.
- Kobby has broken my favorite mug.

- I have seen them today.
- He has lost his yellow pencil.
