Significance

Yes there is truth in the fact that the assassination of the Archduke sparked the tensions for the war but was the war inevitable knowing that tensions had brewed in Europe over decades.

These nations failed to exhaust diplomacy which could have prevented the assassination of the Archduke and spared the world the loss it suffered. This doesn’t necessarily mean that exhaustion of diplomacy might entirely prevent wars.

The conscious effort to remember the devastating effects of wars on humanity is enough reason to always and consistently revisit history to review decisions that may prove disastrous.
