Uses of Animals
Animals are very important to Human beings; they provide various uses in our daily lives. Some good uses (like pets and some form of transport) as well as some rather bad ones (like hunting them down for sport). Below are detailed uses of animals;
Food:
A lot of animals are used for food; their flesh provides a high protein source which humans need. Beef (cow), Chicken (chicken), pork (pig), lamb (baby sheep) are a few examples of meat humans eat. There is no known limit to what type of animal meat humans will eat, some countries are known for eating frogs, dogs, snakes, horse meat etc. Milk is also gotten from cows and sometimes goats.
Pets:
A lot of animals have been trained and domesticated, providing companionship to human beings. Pets are treated very well and fed regularly with medical checkups too. Some dogs provide assistance to blind people. There is a saying: “A dog is a man’s best friend”. Some examples of pets are dogs, cats, mice etc. If one can train and tame an animal without any potential dangers on their life, that animal is considered a pet. Tigers, snakes etc can also be pets.
Security:
Some pets also form some sort of security to human beings from potential danger. Here you can have guard dogs that are trained to protect their owners from danger. There are a lot of dogs in police forces that help fight crime and even lead human beings to clues. There are dogs at the airport that sniff people’s luggage to try and prevent smuggling of narcotics.
Transportation:
Animals were the main source of transportation before the introduction of vehicles and airplanes. They helped people travel from one location to the other. Man rode on their backs and also used them to pull carriages and sledges. Horses, donkeys, camels and snow dogs are some examples of animals used for transport.
Clothes:
Some skin and other parts of animals are used for clothes and footwear. Leather which is used to make shoes, jackets, trousers etc comes from the hides of cows, snakes and crocodiles just to mention a few. Wool is shaved from sheep to make sweaters, bed covers etc.
Research:
Animals are used as research subjects. Some new antidotes for diseases are sometimes used on animals before they are deemed safe to be applied on humans. Guinea pigs are a known test subject. Cosmetic companies also use a lot of animals to test their products on before they can sell to the public. In the past apes were trained to be put in rockets and sent to space.
