Mulching

This is covering the top of soil with a protective layer of a material. These protective materials are usually organic matter such as dry leaves, straw, saw dust etc.

Importance of mulching

• It retains the water in the soil and this makes the roots moist.

• It provides buffer from heat and cold temperature because it insulates the soil.

• It checks soil erosion and weed growth.
