Chemical Elements

Matter is made up of particles. The particles are atoms, molecules or ions. Matter comes in different forms. Some forms can be seen and touched such as wood. Some forms cannot be seen and touched, such as air.

Matter may contain particles of two or more different kinds. If a material contains particles of only one kind, it is known as an element.


Elements

An element is a substance that is made up of the same kind of atoms and cannot be broken down into simpler substances by any known chemical means. Examples of elements are Argon, Chlorine, Silver, Potassium, Mercury etc.
