Examples of Chemical Changes in our Daily Life
I. Burning wood
II. Rusting of iron
III. Chewing a piece of bread
IV. Sodium reacting with water
V. Food digestion
Any substance that undergoes chemical change cannot be obtained again. The substances are charged entirely. The molecules formed are different from the original.
When carbohydrate (rice, bread, cake) is chewed in the mouth, chemical change takes place. Digestion of carbohydrate, starts from the buccal cavity (mouth).
When the carbohydrate enters the mouth, the enzyme salivary amylase is secreted and this enzyme converts it to maltose. The maltose formed has different chemical composition to carbohydrate.
