Gender Relations in the Community
Gender is a set of roles given to people because they are males or females. Gender roles mean the different things that a male or female is considered capable of doing. It is usually influenced by society’s beliefs. The society sees males as high performers, great achievers and should be the heads among groups of people. Meanwhile, they see females as weak, low achievers and responsible for performing household chores. Our traditions usually discriminate against girls.
Stereotypes are beliefs that are held strongly by people to be true meanwhile, there are no factual truth backing them. A typical example is that females are seen to be weak, very emotional and there is no need for them to be educated because their role is to perform house chores.
Sex tells us whether a person is a male or female.
