How to maintain Personal Hygiene
Adolescence is a period where the physical body goes through changes and therefore the adolescents personal hygiene makes one healthy, strong and stops the spread of infections. Adolescents can maintain personal hygiene through
a) Washing hands regularly:
• After using the toilet
• Before making or eating food
• After touching our friends and other things around us
It is advisable to use clean water and soap to wash hands
b) Brushing the teeth at least twice daily mostly in the morning and evening to prevent bad breath
c) Being careful not to cough or sneeze on others
d) Washing clothes, underwear and socks regularly to prevent unpleasant smell generated from sweat
e) Bathing regularly and using deodorant
f) Having clean hair
g) Putting shoes outside to dry and kill the bacteria in them which makes them smell
h) Taking good care of genital organs
• Avoid wearing tight, synthetic underwear
• Girls should change sanitary pads regularly during menstruation
• Avoid washing genitals with chemicals and detergents, clean water is enough
