Digestive System of Human

Digestion is the process whereby enzymes and other chemicals in the body of a living thing breaks down food substances into its smallest unit in order to make it simple for absorption into the blood stream for assimilation.


Assimilation

Assimilation is when the absorbed food substances are used by the cells of the living things.

In humans, a system is a whole consisting of parts (organs) that work together to perform a function (digestion). Digestive system consists of organs such as mouth, stomach, small intestine and large intestine that come together to breakdown food into it simplest form for easy absorption into the blood stream for assimilation.

There are various organs that perform in food digestion. They are mouth, salivary gland, esophagus, stomach duodenum, ileum, small intestine, colon, large intestine etc.
