Pronouns

These words take the place of a noun or noun phrase and can play many roles in the sentence.

They can be the subject of the sentence (this means they replace the subject of the sentence):

Example:

She visits her cousin on weekends.

They can be the direct object of the sentence (this means they receive the action of the verb)

Example:

Joojo caught it.

They can also act as the indirect object or object of the preposition (this means they receive the direct object and come between the verb and the direct object):

Example:

Ms. Hansen gave him some juice.

There are different kinds of pronouns; one type of pronoun that is commonly used is the personal pronoun.
