The Solar System’s role in the formation of the Earth

The formation of the Earth has different stories, Religious people believe a higher being (God, or gods) created the Earth whilst other believe in a more scientific approach.

Since this article is aimed at discussing scientific facts about the earth, we will use the scientific explanations available to explain the formation of the earth. To understand how the Earth was formed we have to understand it on a larger scale which is the Solar System. The earth is part of the solar system which includes the sun and its orbiting planets. This solar system is also part of a bigger picture called the Galaxy. Now the galaxy in which we find ourselves is called the Milky Way.

The genesis of our solar system is the Sun. The sun was formed from clouds of space gases called nebulas. Under gravity, atoms of these gases and space dust started pulling together to form bigger masses. This occurred over several million years. Under increasing gravity, the atoms underwent a fusion reaction which burst out with so much energy in the form of heat and light. This heat and light is what we know as the Sun, the core of our solar system. Now after the sun was formed there were leftovers of gases and much heavier atoms.
