Solar eclipse
This is when all the sun rays are blocked out by the moon from reaching the earth. When this happens, some regions of the earth experience total darkness (umbra) while other portions experience partial darkness (penumbra).
Solar eclipse occurs when the moon comes between the sun and the earth. Solar eclipse do not happen often, the last one happened on March 29, 2006 in Ghana

The diagram above shows the arrangement of solar eclipse. The region on the earth closer to umbra experiences total eclipse. The region on earth closer to the total eclipse wills partial eclipse. The region on earth far away from the umbra will not experience eclipse.
