Structure of Metropolitan Assembly

The Metropolitan Assembly is structured like this;

                METROPOLITAN ASSEMBLY
                          ↓


         SUB- METROPOLITAN DISTRICT COUNCILS

                           ↓

                     TOWN COUNCILS

                          ↓

                    UNIT COMMITTEE

The metropolitan assembly is a four tier structure whereas the municipal and district assemblies have three (3) tier structures.

Municipal Assembly ---> Zonal Council---> Unit Committee

District Assembly ---> Urban/Town/Area ---> Unit Committee

There are forty (40) municipal assemblies currently in Ghana. There are also 124 district assemblies. So in all, we have 170 MMDAs in Ghana.
