Type of Soils

There are several types of soils but the most common ones are Sandy, Loamy and Clay soil.

Sandy Soil:

This type of soil has large particles and is not compact. Water and nutrients drain away quickly from the plant roots making it hard to retain any. It however allows a lot of air into the soil which is good. This type of soil is not ideal for plant growth.

Clay Soil:

This is a very compact type of soil. The particles are packed closely together which allows it to retain a lot of water and nutrients. These soils are known to be very rich and very dense in nature, but it also limits air and moisture penetration. They are good for growing plants that need a lot of water.

Loamy Soil:

This type of soil is perfect for plant growth; it has the right mixture of clay, silt and sandy soil. So it has their advantages and few of their disadvantages.

Other Notable Soil Types:

Silt Soil:

This is a smooth type of soil. It is a rich and fertile soil since it retains water and nutrients.
