Composition of Soil

Air:

Soil is made up of small holes and pockets of space. Within these spaces there is air present. This air is rich in carbon dioxide which is good for plants.


Water:

These small holes and pockets of space in soil also contain water. The source of water is usually from rain or irrigation. The soil retains as much water as it can take which is healthy for plant growth.


Rocks:

There are a lot of little rocks, gravel, sand and stones that make up soil. These particles are present due to the erosion of bigger rocks over the course of time.


Dead organisms:

There are so many dead and decaying organisms in soil. Some examples are bacteria, fungi, earthworms etc.
