This is the form of energy obtained when chemicals undergo a reaction to transform into other chemical substances. This may be natural or artificial.

Some natural chemical reactions include food digestion, respiration and photosynthesis.

Artificial chemical reactions occur in the burning of coal and petrol or diesel to produce energy and in batteries.

Chemical energy from non-living things are mostly used to generate electricity and heat.
