Potential Energy

This is the type of energy a body possesses due to its position. It is the energy of a body when it is at rest.

This type of energy is mostly influenced by the force of gravity of the earth.

Example a spoon on a table, without being touched, has potential energy.

N.B. When potential energy and kinetic energy are put together, mechanical energy is produced.
