Feeding In Plants

Feeding is the process by which living organisms such as plants and animals obtain food for healthy living. Feeding can be categorized into two main types. They are autotrophic and heterotrophic feeding.

Autotrophic feeding

This is a type of feeding performed by plants. This is a process whereby plants prepare their own food and this is where we will talk about photosynthesis.

Photosynthesis is the process whereby green plants prepare their own food. Plants prepare their own food using simple raw materials such as water, carbon dioxide, sunlight and a green substance in plants called chlorophyll. Plants form the basis of every food chain because they produce their own food. Animals obtain energy by feeding on either plants or animals or on both.

IMPORTANT FACT:

There are other types of autotrophs. Some can prepare their own food without the presence of chlorophyll and sunlight.
