Uses of Drones
There are so many uses of Drones, here are a few;
Surveillance
This is probably the most popular use of drones. They are used to monitor enemy camps, neighbourhoods, wildlife, Border patrol, police investigations, prison surveillance etc.
Agriculture
They can be used to monitor crops and that helps to manage these crops. Drones have sensors (infrared sensors) that can identify diseases, this information benefits a farmer on how best to improve plant health.
Disaster Relief
Drones are very good tools to use after a natural disaster has occurred. Drones can be used to scout affected areas and provide information to rescue teams on locations where there are trapped victims. Their small size helps them navigate difficult areas where bigger vehicles cannot pass. They can also deliver food to trapped victims while rescue teams are trying to find ways to save them.
Research in Dangerous locations or Scenarios
Drones can be used to enter locations that are too dangerous for humans to go. Drones can be flown into active volcanoes to see how the process occurs. They can also fly into the center of Tornadoes or cyclones to analyze them and provide data to scientists. Their relatively cheap price compared to larger aerial vehicles helps in these operations, it does not really matter if they get destroyed.
Mining
Drones are gradually entering the mining business. They are able to navigate dangerous areas to inspect them, they can provide valuable information to miners as they determine whether mine entrances are safe. This has led to less casualties and reduces people getting trapped in mines.
Delivery
Drones are a very good way to make deliveries of all forms to areas that are hard to access or just to make faster deliveries. Big retail companies like Amazon can now deliver packages to customers who have ordered from them. First aid kits and medical supplies can be delivered to people who need them in affected areas. Some countries in Africa have supplies delivered to them via Drones. The military can provide weapons to their troops in combat.
Advertisements
Drones can now be used to advertise new products, sales and promotions for companies. Banners are attached to Drones with the necessary information are flown around a specific area so potential customers get the message.
Aerial Photography
Now individuals can take photos and videos of beautiful landmarks and interesting objects from way above. They do not have to rely on expensive planes and helicopters to take the pictures for them. Aeroshutter (a Ghanaian Startup) recently took pictures of the newly constructed Kwame Nkrumah Circle Interchange in Ghana.
Racing
For fun, people buy racing drones and race each other, it provides a competitive edge and is a growing hobby in some countries. It is really exciting unless you lose a lot.
