What

We use the word what when asking for information about things or objects. We can also use it when asking for someone to repeat or confirm something.

Example

Question: What are you making?

Answer: I am making a paper plane.

In this case, we are expecting information about "what" thing the listener is making.

The answer "I am making a paper plane" gives us information about exactly what the listener is making.
