States Of Matter
Matter consists of three states. These are;
Solids
Liquids
Gases
CHARACTERISTICS OF A SOLID
Solids include book, television, shoe etc.
- It cannot flow.
- It cannot be easily compressed.
- It has a definite or fixed shape and volume.
- It has closely packed particles particles.
CHARACTERISITCS OF A LIQUID
Liquids include water, kerosene, diesel etc.
- It cannot be compressed
- It can flow
- It has no definite or fixed shape
- It has a fixed shape
- Its particles can move freely.
CHARACTERISITCS OF A GAS
Gases include oxygen and carbon dioxide
- It can easily be compressed
- It has no definite or fixed shape and volume
- It can flow
- The molecules of a gas are widely separated from each other.
NB: All the states of matter are made of particles or molecules.
