Some Personalities And Their Contribution to Education in Ghana

A Ghanaian born in 1741 at cape coast was educated at the society for the propagation of the gospel. Philip contributed a lot to Ghana’s education before he died in 1816 His own school was established to educate people and also brought life back into the Anglican Church which has opened schools across the country. As a headmaster, he helped educate many people in Gold Coast



JOHN MENSAH SARBAH

Born on 3rd June 1864 at Cape Coast and educated at Wesley Boys High School. He went to further his education and studied law. He was called to the Bar in 1887 but died in 1910.

CONTRIBUTION TO EDUCATION

  1. Reviving the Wesley Boys High School when the missionaries wanted to close it
  2. The Fanti public schools in 1903 were also inspired by him and his friend William Edward Sam
  3. Paying some members of staff with his own pocket money at Mfantsipim school
  4. The National Fante Educational fund was also encouraged by him for its existence
