Experiment to Demonstrate Conduction
A metal rod such as an iron rod is heated in place by retort stand and clamped half way the rod. One end of the metal rod is placed in a hot flame from a Bunsen burner and the other end of the rod is held from time to time.
Observation:
It was observed that the metal rod became hotter and hotter from time to time when held.
Discussion:
The heat from the hot flame was transferred to the metal rod. As time went on, the rod became hotter and hotter. At first, when the rod was touched, little heat was felt but from time to time when the rod was touched more heat was felt. The heat from the flame was transferred to the rod and then the rod also transferred it to the hand which came in direct contact with the rod.
Conclusion:
The heat from the flame was transferred to the rod and then to the hand by conduction.
