Adverbs of manner
These adverbs give information about how something happens or how an action is done. They are usually placed after the main verb or after the object.
Let us look at some examples now.
The boy sang beautifully.
The word beautifully helps us to answer the question ‘how did the boy sing?’
The little girl ate slowly.
In this sentence, the word slowly is the adverb; it describes how the girl ate.
To add emphasis to the adverb, an adverb of manner can be put at the beginning of the sentence.
She slowly washed the dishes.
She washed the dishes slowly.
The first sentence gives more importance to how she washed the dishes.
He quickly cleared the table.
He cleared the table quickly.
In the first sentence, more importance is given to how he cleared the table.
