Chieftaincy

Ethnic groups usually have people selected from a royal family to be their leaders. These traditional leaders make laws for the people and judge cases. These leaders are called chiefs.

A chief rules with the help of a council of elders. The chief is the highest authority in the land and He is seen as being above everybody. Chiefs in the southern part of Ghana are enstooled whilst those in the northern regions are enskinned.
