Skills for Managing Peer Pressure
Peer pressure must be checked because children spend more time with their friends than with their parents. There are various ways of managing peer pressure. They are:
i. Having confidence in yourself
Every child must have confidence in him/her self. He/she must try to avoid consulting friends for every decision they take.
ii. Assessing the situation based on the dangers or difficulty you are in:
You must always think through any advice given to you by your friends.
iii. Trying to remain true to your values
Every child must have values in life. They must always remain focused and achieve the good things they want. They must not allow their friends to confuse them. Their values will help them to focus.
iv. Thinking of the consequences of the options available
You must always be aware of the results that come with any decision that you make in your life. You must think through every outcome of any decision.
v. Making informed decisions based on different viewpoints
You must always have different views on decisions you make in life. When you have many views, you have many options to pick your right decision from.
vi. Reviewing your decisions if you think you made a wrong decision
Wise people always change their mind on wrong decisions. We must always think through any decision we make in life. We must always change it when we feel it is a wrong decision.
vii. Being firm and defending your stand
We must always defend any decision we take. We must always believe in our decisions we take and this helps us be defenders of our decisions.
