Effects of Floods

Loss of life and property

Floods can cause a lot of casualties, people get swept away in them and may not survive because they cannot swim and they die from panicking. Property can get destroyed and carried away, large debris moving in this water may break into buildings and hit unsuspecting people killing them instantly.

Pollution

Water from floods carries rubbish and debris from one place to another. They can also carry any harmful chemicals it might have picked up from waste plants or sewages and spread them all over an area which can destroy its environment.

Economic effects

Floods destroy schools, houses, offices, churches etc. They can really destroy a lot of areas and cause a lot of erosion. The money required to repair and rebuild these damages is a lot. Governments have to spend a lot during a flood to provide temporary shelter and supplies to affected people and also make money available for agencies who work as rescue teams to find missing people.
