Ways to Prevent Floods

Building of dams or strong walls

Dams are known to hold water, so having strong walls set up around your house, school, church or offices can ensure there is less damage to these buildings.

Education

Teaching people the causes and effects of floods will give them an idea on how to prevent them. We learn that gutters choked with rubbish is one way of causing floods so we will make sure to clear these choked areas always not just before rainy seasons. Education should not just happen in schools but in homes and offices too.

Proper Town Planning

Settlements in towns have to be arranged properly to avoid clusters of houses blocking water passage ways. No buildings should be built in waterways.

Vegetation

Trees, shrubs etc should be built around buildings to serve as blocks for flowing water. These plants slow down the impact of moving water towards buildings and reduce erosion.
