Balance of nature

We have what we call the balance of nature. This is the interaction that exists between plants and animals in an ecosystem. It takes form of food chains and food webs, it produces a stable consuming system of life.

We have human and natural activities that disrupt the balance in the ecosystem. They are;

Earthquake: This is the shaking of the earth's surface. Earthquakes are sometimes violent and destroy habitats of some living things. The shaking of the earth also kills some organisms, which are part of the ecosystem.

Volcanic eruption: This is an explosion of lava, dust, ash and rocks into the atmosphere and surface of land. It affects the earth crust.

Hunting: This is the practice of killing or trapping animals. Killing these animals affect our ecosystem.

Farming: This involves devoting land for agricultural processes. Some of these lands are already habitats for some organisms. These organisms are sometimes killed by the farmers during the preparation of the land.

Mining: It is the extraction of valuable minerals such as gold, diamond etc from the earth. The miners dig big holes that destroy the habitats of some terrestrial organisms such as rats, squirrels etc. Mining around our water bodies pollutes the water with dangerous chemicals. This affects the living organisms in these water bodies.

Pollution: This is the introduction of contaminants into the natural environment. Pollution can kill living organisms in the air, water and on land.

Pesticides: These are toxic substances released intentionally into the environment to kill living things.

Bush burning This destroys our plants and animals. It also destroys the fertility of the soil.

NB: The killing of any organisms affects the ecosystem.
