Air Pollution
Air Pollution occurs when there is an introduction of Chemicals, smoke, decayed particles, particulates etc into the atmosphere which makes it impure causing harm and potential diseases to living organisms as well as making it difficult to breathe at times.
Particulates: These are tiny pieces of solids or liquids found in the Earth’s atmosphere
OR
Air pollution or atmospheric pollution refers to the process whereby human activities contaminate the atmosphere or make it impure with harmful substances. These activities release poisonous gases into the atmosphere making the air impure and dangerous to our health.
Important Fact:
Air Quality Index (AQI): This is an index for reporting daily air quality. It tells you how clean and polluted your air is and what type of health effects you may be exposed to. The AQI measures from 0 to 500.The higher the value the higher the level of Air Pollution. (Get table for AQI)
The substances which cause the Air Pollution are called Air Pollutants, examples of these are;
Carbon Monoxide
Sulfur oxides,
Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs which are responsible for ozone layer depletion),
Ammonia,
Nitrogen oxides
Odors (sewage, garbage)
Particulates
Toxic metals (copper, lead)
Carbon dioxide
