Parts of the Electrical Plug and their Function

i. OUTER SHELL:

it is usually a rubber or plastic case or compartment. It insulates the plug against electric current.

ii. LIVE WIRE:

It is brown in colour and it is connected to the live pin. It carries the current.

iii. NEUTRAL WIRE:

It is blue in colour and connected to the neutral pin. It has no current

iv. EARTH WIRE:

It has green and yellow strips. It is connected to the earth pin. It prevents electrical shock and connects metal casing of appliances to the earth. In case the live wire touches the metal casing, a large current flows to the earth and blows the fuse to disconnect the faulty appliance.
