It is the fusion of the male and the female sex cells of living organisms to form a zygote.

  • Matured pollen grain drops on a sticky, hairy stigma and grows into a pollen tube.

  • The pollen tube grows down the style and moves towards the ovary.

  • When it reaches the ovary, the pollen tube pushes through the ovary wall to the ovules.

  • The male sex cell in the pollen tube then fuses with the female sex cell in the ovule to form a zygote.

  • Developed zygote is called embryo.
