Seeds
A seed is a fertilized ovule.
Parts of seed and their functions
Embryo: This consists of the plumule, radicle and one or two cotyledons.
Radicle: This develops into the true root of a plant.
Plumule: This develops into the shoot of a plant.
Cotyledon: This manufactures and store food for the seed.
Testa: It is the hard outer covering of a seed. This protects the inner parts of the seed.
Hilium: This is a scar found on the seed. It is the point of attachment of the seed to the ovary wall.
Micropyle: This is a pore in a seed that allows water and air to get to the growing embryo.
Endosperm: Food is stored in it.
