Measuring the length and mass with other units

Length

The base unit for measuring length is metres (m). Smaller division of the metre can be used for measuring short lengths and multiples of the metre for long distances. These other units are centimeter (cm), millimeter (mm) and kilometer (km). Their relations are

1mm = 1/1000m

1cm = 1/100m or 10mm

1km = 1000mm

Mass

The SI unit of mass is kilogram (kg). For small masses, the kilogram is subdivided into smaller units called grams (g) or milligrams. Larger masses are measured in multiples of kilograms called tons (t). They are:

1kg = 1000g

1g = 1000mg

1t = 1000kg
