Soil Profile
Soil profile is the vertical cross-section through the soil from the top to the bedrock showing various horizons (layers) of which the soil is composed.
The experiment we performed about soil profile previously showed the detailed horizons of soil. These are the three (3) main soil layers. They are: organic matter, top soil, sub soil and parent rock.
The top soil forms a thin layer, usually dark brown and rich in humus.
Sub soil comes after the top soil. The top soil is made up of small stones and gravel with small plant material.
Parent rock lies at the bottom of the arrangement. The various horizontal layers in soil profile are called horizons.
