Migration Route Of The Akan

The Akans speak Twi and Fante. The Denkyira, Bono, Akwapim, Akwau, Assin, Akyem, etc. are some of the few ethnic groups that form the Akan. A population of about 49% of Ghana no wonder they are the largest ethnic group in Ghana.

The Akans are believed to have come from the North after the collapse of the Old Ghana Empire through two rivers. The Black volta and river Comoe. They first settled around Techiman, Gyamanand Bono-Manso

Today the Akans are at various parts of the country, Asanti, Eastern, parts of Brong Ahafo, Central Region and small part of the Northern part of Volta Region.
