Experiment to Compare Viscosity of Two Liquids (Water and Engine Oil)

Activity:

Experiment to compare the viscosity of two liquids (water and engine oil) Materials:

Two measuring cylinders, two ball bearings, stop watch, water and engine oil

Method:

I. the two liquids (water and engine oil) are poured into two measuring cylinders A and B, respectively. Water will be in cylinder A and engine oil will be in cylinder B.

ii. A ball bearing is gently dropped into the measuring cylinder A.

iii. The time for the ball to reach the bottom of the measuring cylinder is taken with the stopwatch.

iv. This is repeated for the measuring cylinder B.

OBSERVATION:

the ball bearings dropped to the bottom faster in the measuring cylinder A than B

CONCLUSION:

The ball bearings took more time to reach the bottom of measuring cylinder B and less time to reach the bottom of measuring cylinder A. this shows that engine oil is more viscous than water.
