Magnetization

This method is used in separating magnetic material particles from non-magnetic ones. The magnetic materials can be attracted by a magnet when it brought close to them. E.g. iron filings and sand.

How to perform magnetization

• Mix a quantity of iron filings with sand in a container.

• Take a bar magnet and bring it close to the sample.

Observation

The iron filings were attracted by the magnet and separated from the sand.
