Marine Mammals

The three main groups of mammals that are adapted to marine life are the whales, dolphins and porpoises. Just like every other mammal, they are warm blooded and also warm their young. They also rely on breathing air. Some whales include, the blue whale, which happens to be the largest, the finback whale, right whale, and gray whale. The baleen whales while make up the suborder mysticeti feed primarily on zooplankton. They filter or strain them through their specialized bones called the baleen or whale bone. The food that collects on the baleen is then collected using the tongue. The suborder Odonticeti is equipped with teeth. They include the Dolphins and porpoises.
