George Washington Carver (1864-1943)

George Washington Carver is known as one of the very first African American inventors.


He is well known for inventing many products from peanuts, many of which we use today. Peanut butter is his most famous product but he also used peanuts to make cooking oil, fuel and clothing dye.


Carver was a lecturer and did a lot of work in agriculture, he encouraged farmers and his students to practice crop rotation to avoid the soil from losing its nutrients. This helped a lot of farmers all year round.
