Rachel Carson (1907-1964)

Rachel Carson was an environmentalist and a Marine Biologist. She is known for being the founder of Environmental Science.

She researched on synthetic pesticides effects on the environment and the animals in them. At the time farmers sprayed high quantities of DDT on their crops to kill off pests, this practice was dangerous on people’s health and could cause sickness.

Rachel Carson wrote a book on the adverse effects of synthetic pesticides to discourage its use. This book was called Silent Spring, it became very popular and spread awareness to the general public.
