Parallel Cultures

Culture is said to be parallel when there are two ways of doing things in a society and the one most considered is maintained with time.

Some parallel cultures practices in Ghana are:

i. Marriage rites

Customary rites are performed first and later followed with another rite depending on the religious background of the person (Christian or Islamic religion)

ii. Burial rites

When a person dies, traditional rites are sometimes performed and afterwards another religious rite is performed depending on the religious background of the person.

iii. Independence day

During the Independence Day celebrations, all the three major religious rites are sometimes performed. Libation is poured for traditional prayer, followed by Christian and Muslim prayer.

iv. Disease treatment

Some people use both orthodox and traditional herbalist treatment for their diseases.
